Unveiling the Beauty of Zimbabwe
There are many countries in Africa that lack no reason so as to be able to attract visitors. The continent is often referred to as a poor and violent one but the truth lies behind the camera scenes. One such country is Zimbabwe that boasts innumerable sights that account for much of tourism in the African continent, but unfortunately, the country’s downfall is more in the limelight that its beauty. Harare:
Previously known as Fort Salisbury, Harare is the capital city of Zimbabwe. This is where the major International Airport of Zimbabwe, Harare International Airport is situated. The city is clean, serene and peaceful, mainly characterized by lush gardens and tree plantations all around. Harare’s most popular attractions remain The Modern Museum and Art Gallery, Robert Mcllwaine Recreational Park whose key features are a lake and game reserve, Lion and Cheetah Park, Larvon Bird Gardens and Ewanrigg Botanical Gardens. The city is commercial and industrial hub of Zimbabwe.
Bulawayo:
Bulawayo is another business and commercial hub of Zimbabwe. After Harare, this is what attracts most tourists to Zimbabwe. In Bulawayo, National Museum, Headquarters of National Railways of Zimbabwe, the Khami Ruins and Rhodes Matopos National Park are places of interest.
Matobo National Park:
The national park is known for the huge granite rock that it houses and the ancient caves and cave paintings. Tomb of Cecil Rhodes at Malindidzimu and the caves of Nswatugi and Pomongwe are mind blowing places inside the park.
The Eastern Highlands:
These highlands include Zimbabwe’s highest peak, the Inyanga and Vumba and Chimanimani Mountain Ranges. These are popular for the spectacular views that they provide of the valleys, streams, gorges and granite peaks. In addition, the highlands provide excellent sporting facilities amidst cool weather. These sports hilly golf courses, pony rides, mountain climbing, squash, tennis, bowls, and snooker. Wildlife can also be viewed there which include leopard and antelopes.
Great Zimbabwe Monument:
History lovers would love their visit to the ruined city that flourished from 13th to 15th centuries due to trade of gold. The entrance of the ruined city is through a ruined temple that has 4m wide and 9m high walls portraying hand crafted works. A combination of visit to this archeological site and the nearby Lake Kyle National Park would be wondrous.
Victoria Falls:
This waterfall is the key feature of Zambezi River and the largest of the world. Victoria Falls add to the scenic beauty of Zimbabwe and are located on Zimbabwe-Zambia border. Thus they can be viewed from Zambia as well and this does not require much formalities. The nearby Zambezi National Park provides for another unforgettable experience.
Other Zimbabwean attractions include Mana Pools National Park, Nyanga National Park and Lake Kariba. Mana Pools offers exotic wildlife and bird species amidst forests located on the banks of Zambezi River while Nyanga provides the finest natural settings including grasslands, cliffs, waterfalls and forests. A walk to English Gardens and Church from Nyanga is simply splendid. Lake Kariba is a serene and picturesque lake and world’s second largest manual dam. Remember, flights to Zimbabwe would take tourists indirectly to Harare and hence to these spectacular sights.
